In this position, you will be working 1-to-1 with a child with special needs at a school. This is a full time, in-person position paying over $14/hour.
Responsibilities for Paraprofessional
- Assist teacher with lessons and daily classroom activities
- Assist teacher with paperwork such as reports
- Communicate with children and help them understand lessons
- Prepare the classroom setting to promote a healthy learning environment
- Ensure classroom safety standards are met at all times
- Monitor children with particular attention to those with special needs
- Engage with children to enhance learning
- Perform clerical tasks as required
Qualifications for Paraprofessional
- Must pass a skills assessment test depending on State of hire
- Experience in helping teachers in a classroom environment desired
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Good understanding of the educational system
- Strong interpersonal and social attributes
- Discipline and diligent nature
- Enthusiastic and passionate about teaching
- Patient with children including those with special needs
- Ability to stand and move around for long hours at a time

- Dedicated solely to special needs students and curriculum and special programs are directed specifically to serving students specific requirements
- Making an impact in the lives of children with special needs
- Supporting students with disabilities in the general education
- Support a non-categorical self-contained classroom for early childhood students with significant special needs
- Help ensure that the school is providing appropriate programs in the least restrictive environment for all students with special needs
- Guiding students to socially appropriate behavior
- Work one-on-one with special needs kids and teens who need help
- Understand, address and be sensitive to the presented special needs of each student
- Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on understanding of individual students, needs, interests and abilities
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for the students
- Celebrate the successes of students and expertise of colleagues
- Maintain students motivation, cooperation, and participation
- Work in an environment offering treatment, therapy and services to a special population
- Coordinate, and facilitate the development and implementation of action plans intended to accomplish specific goals and objectives related to special education
- Work with all students in the building to promote learning and pro-social development
- Assist in providing materials to help classroom teacher creates curriculum modifications for students
- Maintaining classroom control that fosters a safe, positive environment for all students
- Look after the children at homes and provide transportation
- Providing first aid and overseeing the management of medications for students at the school
